The Vagina Monolougues

I recently had the pleasure to photograph Backstages production of Eve Ensler's episodic play The Vagina Monologues in the Glasshouse at UTS. The play is a series of monologues that each deal with a single aspect of the female experience ranging from love to rape. While some of the monologues are extremely touching and sad the overall theme of the play is that of female empowerment.

This production of the Vagina Monologues was not straight from the book, it was great to see that director by Emily Burke took some chances by including three men into the cast with two monologues performed by men. One of these monologues was also written by Eve Ensler for another play, the other was written especially for the show.

I have been working with this company for over a year and this was the strongest performance they have put together to date with some of the strongest performances I have seen these actors bring to the stage. It was also the first time that the company has tackled a modern play that address a number of important social issues. I hope they continue to do so.

The entire cast was Sami-Jo Adelman, Tess Barber, Claudia Anne Mason Coy, Sophia Delimihalis, Katie Henebery, Margot Kelly, Sarah McKenzie, Dominica Nicholls, Andrew Salinas, Ariella Stoian, James Wilson,  and Andy McLean.
